The product is rarely what stops an Indian food founder. The licence category chosen wrong, the layout that fails inspection, the subsidy application that comes back unsanctioned, the label that makes a compliant product illegal — those are what stop people. Sixty-two days through every approval, certification, scheme and channel, in the order they actually have to happen.
₹9,999 · one-time · 1-year access
This is an educational course, not legal, regulatory or financial advice. Licensing, certification and subsidy scheme terms change — always verify the current position on the official portal (FoSCoS, DGFT, APEDA, your state nodal agency) or with a qualified professional before you file an application or commit capital.
For founders who can already make the product, and now have to make it a licensed, fundable, distributable business.
Selling pickles, masalas or baked goods informally, unsure whether you need Basic Registration or a State Licence, and putting off the paperwork because nobody explains it plainly.
The right FSSAI category identified by the binding trigger, a pre-staged document checklist, a filed FoSCoS application, and a PMFME subsidy application aligned to your district ODOP product.
A site picked on rent alone, a layout drawn by the contractor, and no idea which consents gate which approvals or what the sequence costs in lost months.
A unidirectional-flow layout zoned against Schedule 4, the right pollution-control category and consent path, fire NOC and labour-code obligations sequenced, and a go/no-go pre-operative audit before the first commercial batch.
You have heard of PMFME and PLI, you do not know which one you qualify for, and your project report is a spreadsheet no banker would fund.
A mapped subsidy stack across PMFME, PMKSY, PLI, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund and state policy, a DSCR-tested capital structure, and a bankable DPR built to the format appraisers actually score.
A buyer enquiry from the Gulf or the EU that you cannot act on, because you do not have IEC, an RCMC, or any idea what the destination requires.
IEC, FSSAI Central and APEDA RCMC obtained in the right order, destination compliance mapped (FDA/FSMA, EU TRACES, SFDA), Incoterms and export pricing decided, and packing credit and ECGC cover in place.
A good product with no distributor, no modern-trade listing, and quick-commerce fees that seem to eat the whole margin.
A channel mix chosen on fit and sequenced to your working capital, distributor appointment and management, and channel-by-channel pricing where the margins reinforce rather than cannibalise each other.
Ten modules in dependency order — you cannot certify what is not licensed, cannot export what is not certified, and cannot scale what does not have a channel.
Built for founders who need decision-ready tools, not passive reading.
Calculators, selectors, builders and trackers that save your work — the FSSAI Category Selector, Schedule 4 inspection self-audit, HACCP Plan Builder, PMFME Subsidy Calculator, DSCR tester and cold storage sizer among them.
Category selection on all three triggers, a stage-by-stage FoSCoS walkthrough including the Kind of Business fields, the query clock, inspection readiness against Schedule 4, and the annual return calendar afterwards.
PMFME with ODOP alignment, PMKSY for cold chain, PLI, state incentives and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund — mapped with convergence rules, then turned into a DPR a bank will appraise.
HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, BRCGS, IFS, NPOP organic, Halal and Kosher — with a cost and timeline model that tells you which ones your buyers require and which ones you can skip for now.
FSSAI declarations and claims, legal metrology on net quantity and MRP, and plastic EPR under the waste management rules — plus an honest read on where front-of-pack nutrition labelling actually stands.
A year, because a food project runs on approval timelines you do not control. Come back for the export module when the first enquiry arrives and for the scaling module when the second line does.
A food business answers to more than one regulator. These are the instruments the lessons walk through, in the sequence they bind you.
Your category is set by turnover OR production capacity OR a business-type override — whichever pushes you highest. The course covers the current position including the 2026 amendment that moved licences to perpetual validity with ongoing annual fees.
The physical and procedural requirements an inspector scores you against — floors, walls, zoning, personnel hygiene, SOPs, FoSTaC training, traceability and records.
Every declaration that must appear on pack, font size and display area rules, permitted versus prohibited claims, the 2024 amendment that put sugar, saturated fat and sodium into bold, and an honest read on where front-of-pack nutrition labelling actually stands.
Which materials are permitted for food contact and the IS standards behind them — the compliance layer underneath any packaging design decision.
No food factory operates legally without consent. The course works through categorisation under the current rules, effluent and ETP planning, and the consent timeline that gates your build.
Designed into the building rather than added afterwards, because the NOC unlocks other approvals downstream.
The Codes came into force in late 2025, which means much of the guidance still circulating is out of date. Covered with an applicability mapper, the 50% wage-structure rule and a compliance calendar.
The second regulator on your pack. Errors here make a food-safe product non-compliant at the point of sale.
Extended Producer Responsibility obligations for anyone putting plastic packaging into the market, and what recyclability requirements mean for material choice.
A 35% subsidy up to ₹10 lakh for micro food processing units, routed through Udyam, the scheme MIS portal, your bank and the state nodal agency — with ODOP alignment as the practical key to sanction.
Which scheme fits which project, what each actually funds, and the convergence rules that decide whether you can stack them.
The dependency chain — IEC from DGFT, FSSAI Central, then the APEDA RCMC — and the incentives registration unlocks, including RoDTEP.
Meeting the destination market rules rather than only India's, plus the packaging and shelf-life requirements that come with weeks of transit.
A sample of the 171 interactive tools. Each one belongs to a specific lesson, and each saves what you enter so the work compounds across the course.
Runs your operation through all three triggers — turnover, production capacity and the business-type overrides — and tells you which one is binding. It is often not turnover.
Scores you against Schedule 4 the way the officer will, so you find the gaps before the visit rather than after the rejection.
Hazard analysis worksheet, CCP decision tree, then critical limits, monitoring and corrective actions written into a plan an auditor can follow.
Structures the 35% credit-linked subsidy up to ₹10 lakh against your bank loan and own contribution, alongside an ODOP eligibility checker.
Tests whether the project actually services its debt before you take it — the question a bank asks first and founders ask last.
Sizes capacity for peak season, throughput and holding period. Its companion Build-vs-Rent Estimator then prices construction and models the PMKSY subsidy against simply renting instead.
Validates every FSSAI declaration on your pack and checks font size against display area. The Claims Validator beside it screens each claim as permitted or prohibited.
Classifies your facility into the four hygiene zones, while the Flow & Layout Planner beside it checks the same drawing for unidirectional product flow — the cheapest fix on paper, the most expensive after construction.
Models PMFME, PMKSY, PLI and state incentives together against the convergence rules, so you know the real public share of your project cost.
Plans refrigerated transport and the last mile, with temperature monitoring and a pre-written excursion-response procedure for when the chain breaks.
Picks between FSSC 22000, BRCGS and IFS based on which retailers and markets you are selling into, with a cost and timeline comparison.
Weighted, product-adaptive site scoring, paired with a Landed Cost Analyzer that adjusts each candidate site for state incentives — a ten-year decision made on numbers.
One real lesson from each of the ten modules. Each opens by telling you exactly what you will have finished by the end of it.
The mistake almost every first-time food founder makes: they fall in love with a product before they understand the market structure it has to survive inside. Day 1 is about not being that founder — reading the market the way an operator reads it, sized from the bottom up and narrowed to one defensible place where you can win…
The first practical decision the Act forces on you is deceptively simple: which category do I apply for — Basic Registration, State Licence, or Central Licence? Get it wrong and you do not just pay a small penalty; the application is rejected and the whole process restarts, weeks lost, with a launch date sliding away…
This is where compliance becomes concrete, literally. Layout is the cheapest thing to get right on paper and one of the most expensive things to fix once built. A contamination cross-over you catch in five minutes on a sketch costs nothing; the same problem found after construction means knocking down walls…
This is where you move from being compliant to being excellent, and where food safety stops being a checklist and becomes a system. The shift HACCP demands is from reactive to preventive: instead of testing finished product and hoping it is safe, you control the few points where control is critical, in real time…
Cold chain is capital-intensive and unforgiving of planning errors — an undersized facility constrains you within a year, an oversized one bleeds cash, and a broken temperature link destroys product silently. This lesson shows you how to design, size, cost and finance it right, including the subsidy that can fund up to half…
The schemes module is about the government money that can fund a large share of your project, and it starts with the single most accessible scheme for a small food processor. PMFME can fund 35% of your project cost up to ₹10 lakh as a credit-linked subsidy — and ODOP alignment is the master key to approval…
The export module turns outward. You cannot legally export a single consignment without the foundational credentials — and getting them in the right order is the first export skill. This lesson covers the three that gate everything else: IEC, FSSAI Central, and the APEDA RCMC, plus the incentives registration unlocks…
Packaging is where food safety, shelf life, brand, logistics and cost all collide in a single physical object. This module treats it as an engineering and compliance decision first and a design decision second, because a beautiful pack that lets your product spoil — or that fails a migration test — is worse than useless…
You can make a brilliant product and still fail if you pick the wrong way to sell it. India's food distribution landscape is uniquely complex — roughly 12 million kirana stores, a growing organised modern trade, an exploding quick-commerce channel, a vast HoReCa segment, and the high-margin but capital-hungry D2C route…
Food is a trust category: people are putting your product into their bodies and their families' bodies, so a food brand lives or dies on trust and consistency. It is also uniquely regulated — a careless "healthy" or "immunity-boosting" can become a penalty and a credibility disaster…
Eight capabilities the course is built to leave you with.
Why it matters: Size the opportunity bottom-up from primary sources, segment by economics rather than emotion, map where margin and wastage sit in the value chain, and narrow to one product-geography pair you can defend to a banker, an investor, or yourself.
Why it matters: Identify your category by the binding trigger, pre-stage the correct documentation tier, file through FoSCoS with the Kind of Business fields and food-category codes right the first time, and handle the query clock instead of being surprised by it.
Why it matters: Design contamination out before concrete is poured — unidirectional flow, four-zone hygiene separation, Schedule 4 physical specifications, realistic space allocation and utility loads — then verify it with a scored go/no-go audit before the first commercial batch.
Why it matters: Pollution-control consent, fire NOC, labour-code registration and the rest mapped into a dependency order with timelines and costs attached, so you learn what gates what on a planner rather than on the day it blocks you.
Why it matters: A HACCP plan with real CCPs, an ISO 22000 gap analysis, and a clear-eyed decision on FSSC 22000, BRCGS, IFS, NPOP organic, Halal and Kosher — driven by what your buyers and destination markets require, with cost, timeline and integrated audit management modelled.
Why it matters: PMFME with ODOP alignment, PMKSY for cold chain, PLI, state incentives and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund mapped against convergence rules, then converted into a bankable DPR and a DSCR-tested capital structure that a lender can appraise.
Why it matters: Credentials in dependency order, destination compliance for the US, EU and Gulf, an Incoterm chosen deliberately, export pricing that stays profitable, packing credit and ECGC cover in place, and a phased roadmap from first shipment to export-led scale.
Why it matters: Packaging specified from spoilage behaviour and cleared through FSSAI, legal metrology and plastic EPR at once, then sold through a channel mix — kirana, modern trade, quick commerce, HoReCa, D2C — sequenced to your working capital with margins that do not cannibalise each other.
Indicative market rates for the work this course teaches you to do in-house. Ranges vary by state, consultant and scope — treat them as a comparison, not a quote.
What founders pay for this, piece by piece
Price is inclusive. No GST is charged.
Food processing is governed by several regulators at once, and they do not move together. FSSAI licensing changed with the 2026 amendment, the four Labour Codes came into force in late 2025, pollution-control categorisation and packaging waste rules have both been revised recently, and destination-market rules such as the EU PPWR are still bedding in. Lessons state what they are current as of, and the course teaches you how to check a rule rather than asking you to trust a number — but the check is yours to make.
Government scheme terms are the most volatile part of all of this. Subsidy percentages, ceilings, eligible project categories, nodal-agency processes and scheme end dates are all set by policy and change with it — PMFME, PMKSY, PLI and state incentive policies included. The figures used in the lessons and tools are planning anchors for modelling your project, not entitlements. Confirm eligibility and current terms with the scheme portal and your state nodal agency before you build a business case on them.
Cost, capacity, margin and timeline figures are illustrative ranges drawn from the industry, not quotes. Your own vendor pricing, state, product category and scale will move them. Use the tools to model with your numbers.
